John McCain thinks vaccines cause autism.

And you thought it was bad in the UK. When replying to a mother with an autistic child in a town meeting a few days back the republican presidential candidate said the following:

"It’s indisputable that (autism) is on the rise amongst children, the question is what’s causing it. And we go back and forth and there’s strong evidence that indicates that it’s got to do with a preservative in vaccines."

It's especially depressing when you realise compared to Huckabee and Romney, this is the Republicans most 'pro-science' candidate.

You can read more about it here and here.

Um... google "vaccine autism" and you get http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news
/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=32988

as the first result.
The part about "indisputable proof" isn't really correct, but there's a strong case for vaccines actually having a negative effect leading to neurodevelopment disorders. I'm all for cracking down on shit-talkers, but this republican actually has a point and you should feel bad for not doing any research(unless you did and have read something I haven't, in which case I'll excuse myself).

Actually there's a lot of stuff in the medical world like this going on. Medical companies that don't want to take the blow and say they've been making a faulty product and a wide-spread mentality of "if it ain't broke" makes for a lot of old medicals (that would get booted if they'd been introduced today and had to go through all the rigorous tests) staying strong.

... As I understand it anyway. I'm not a medical student or anything, but this is what I'm getting from reading the news, etc.

(though mostly I thought the lack of comments on the blog was sad somehow)

Thanks for the comment, the blog doesn't get many. but it gets plenty of readers so it doesn't bother me.

And I don't feel bad because I've followed the vaccines causes autism story for a while now thanks to the brilliant Ben Goldacre.

There is no evidence that vaccines causes Autism, and plenty that shows they are safe.

Read some of his articles here

Also I'm not sure what version of google you used to get Woldnetdaily to be your first hit because it isn't mine.

I would be careful when reading WND as it's a crazy ultra conservative site that makes The Daily Mail look like the guardian. It's obsessed with Gay people, Islam and conspiracy theories. More here.

Cheers for reading.
