Johnny Lee's work is a beautiful example of what can happen when technology is open and hackable and so allows the public to take it far further than the original designers could ever have imagined. I've yet to watch this video, but I've seen the clips he's put up on his site, and despite a rough start he quickly won me over with his genuine enthusiasm for his work, so stick with it. After I've watched it I'll post what I think in the comments thread.
Slighty outside the remit of Skeptobot I admit, but I liken it to a sorbet to freshen the palate before another week of tat.

ReplyDeleteI really think this a good route for Science and Tech outreach to go. To take these closed systems that kids are used to consuming and show them how much furhter they can go. And how much fun that hacking, and understanding and exploring these things can be.
He is such a geek in the true sense of the word.

Exactly right about the geek thing. When I first saw him on youtube I cringed as I thought I was going to sit through another loser warbling about his Wii, and then suddenly you see his real interest in the subject and he pretty much holds you spell bound with his own enthusiasm. We need more people like him.
